Reputed al-Qaida supporter taken from court in NYC
NEW YORK — A Pakistani scientist being tried on charges that she shot at U.S. Army personnel and FBI agents in Afghanistan has been removed from court after shouting down a prosecution witness.
Aafia Siddiqui (ah-FEE’-uh sih-DEE’-kee) had stayed mostly silent during opening statements in Manhattan on Tuesday. She is accused of shooting at U.S. Army personnel and federal agents.
The first witness, U.S. Army Capt. Robert Snyder, testified that she had documents that described plans for mass-casualty attacks. He says the documents named the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Siddiqui was taken from court after loudly denying she planned a bombing. She shouted: “You’re lying!” Marshals hurried her from court.
