Man indicted for threatening President Obama
NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for threatening to kill President Barack Obama.
U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says 47-year-old John Turnpaugh was indicted on four counts Friday that also included drug and gun charges.
According to the indictment, on Dec. 30, a New Orleans Police Department 911 operator received a call from someone who stated he was going to kill Obama and his wife and then hung up.
The indictment also says Turnpaugh possessed with the intent to distribute a quantity of marijuana and illegally possessed several firearms as part of his drug activity.
If convicted of all charges, Turnpaugh faces a possible sentence of life in prison, as well as $1 million in fines.
