RI prosecutor loses driver’s license for 7 months

WARWICK, R.I. — A Rhode Island federal prosecutor whose drunken-driving arrest sparked an internal investigation into whether police gave him favorable treatment has lost his driver’s license for seven months.

Gerard Sullivan admitted Monday there was enough evidence to prove he refused a chemical breath test after being pulled over early Thanksgiving Day for driving erratically.

As part of a deal, prosecutors in the state Traffic Tribunal dropped two motor vehicle violations against the 50-year-old prosecutor. He must pay a $400 fine and serve 40 hours of community service.

Sullivan still faces a DUI charge in Warwick District Court.

Warwick’s police chief has ordered an internal probe into why Sullivan was not initially charged with driving under the influence unlike others arrested Thanksgiving weekend.
