LOS ANGELES — A man whose murder conviction was overturned by a judge after he spent 26 years in prison for his mother’s death has filed a lawsuit accusing Los Angeles police of framing him.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court accuses officials of violating Bruce Lisker’s civil rights by using false evidence to convict him, among other allegations.

The suit names city and police officials as defendants and seeks undisclosed damages.

The 44-year-old Lisker was given a life sentence for beating and stabbing his 66-year-old mother in 1983.

A federal judge overturned his conviction in July, saying the trial was tainted by false evidence and his attorney failed to adequately represent him.

A call to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office wasn’t immediately returned.
