Ex-Fla. GOP chair Greer arrested, charges unknown

OVEIDO, Fla. — The former state Republican Party chairman in Florida has been arrested, although there was no immediate word on charges or whether the arrest was linked to a probe of finances.

Authorities in Seminole County in north-central Florida said Jim Greer was arrested at his home near Orlando on Wednesday morning.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which has been investigating Greer, declined to comment on the arrest or charges ahead of a news conference at 11:30 a.m.

The department started investigating Greer after an audit found he awarded himself and his executive director a fundraising contract that paid them about $200,000.

Greer resigned in February under pressure from donors and party activists after reports of lavish spending on private jets, decadent meals and entertainment.
