Muharram Procession Targeted By Terrorists

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (GaeaTimes.com)- A Muharram procession that was taken out in the city of Peshawar in Pakistan on Thursday was struck by tragedy when it was targeted by terrorists who carried out a vicious attack that killed one and left many injured. The deafening bomb blast rocked the Yadgar Chowk area of the city late on Thursday just as the mourners were about to make their way towards their home after the procession had just ended. Police authorities have confirmed that the casualty included a child while as many as 25 people sustained severe injuries in the terrorist attack.
While divulging details of the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ijaz Khan told journalists that bomb that targeted the Muharram procession was a time device while adding that the militants mainly wanted to hurt the procession mourners at the end of the event on Thursday. Moreover, the Peshawar SSP also went on to add that the militants had to carry out their attack at the end of the procession as earlier on owing to the heavy security, they were not able to breach the security measures that was on a high the entire day.
It has been reported that the terrorists threw a hand grenade targeting the Muharram mourners at the Yadgar Chowk area and following the incident, the injured were rushed to the Lady Ring Hospital where preliminary treatment was administered to them. According to sources in the medical facility, the injured included as many as eight women and four children. A two-year-old child succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital.
