Austrian policeman’s assault trial adjourns
VIENNA — The trial of an undercover Austrian police officer accused of assaulting an American teacher in a subway station after mistaking him for an African drug dealer has been adjourned until January.
Mike Brennan, a former football player from Jacksonville, Florida, suffered injuries to his back, head, neck, hand and wrist during the Feb. 11, 2009, incident in Vienna. The officer, who cannot be named under local law, has pleaded not guilty. He faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
Judge Patrick Aulebauer postponed the proceedings Friday so that Brennan’s girlfriend, who is currently out of the country, can testify.
