FLINT, Mich. — The suspect in a series of stabbings in Michigan and two other states is also facing a charge of malicious destruction of property.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says Elias Abuelazam (ee-LY’-uhs A’-boo-LAH’-zuhm) is accused of smashing a car window July 12 outside a bar in Genesee Township, about 8 miles north of Flint, Mich.
The felony charge Thursday carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
The 33-year-old Abuelazam already faces one murder charge and five attempted murder charges. Five men were killed and nine injured in a series of stabbings in the Flint area. Abuelazam also is suspected in four attacks in Virginia and Ohio.
He was arrested in Atlanta on Aug. 11 while trying to catch a flight to Israel, his native country.
