Vt. sued over refusal to release auditor DUI video
MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermont races for governor and state auditor are figuring into a federal lawsuit over the state’s recent refusal to release a police video of a drunken driving arrest.
A supporter of Doug Hoffer, the Democratic nominee for auditor, filed the lawsuit after the state refused to release police dashboard video of Republican incumbent Tom Salmon’s arrest.
Public Safety Commissioner Thomas Tremblay previously released video of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Peter Shumlin’s arrest for speeding. But Tremblay, a Republican appointee, says the Shumlin video was part of a civil case while the Salmon video is part of a criminal investigation and not subject to public disclosure.
A hearing is set for Oct. 15.
