NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Pakistani-American suspect Faisal Shahzad who confessed to planting a car bomb in Times Square earlier this year, is likely to be sentenced on Tuesday. The United States citizen was pleaded guilty to the charge of attempting to bomb Times Square with the help of a car bomb on May 1. The bomb that was planted in a parked SUV in one of the busiest streets of New York failed to go off as the device fizzled without getting ignited. Prosecutors have contended that if the Pakistani-American suspect was successful in carrying out the vicious attack then it could claimed many innocent lives.

Prior to the court hearing that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, US attorney Randall Jackson has alleged in the papers that have been filed in the court that the history and the characteristics that have been displayed by Faisal Shahzad highlights the fact that he deserves a maximum available sentence as he has failed to provide any kind of an explanation for his criminal activity. At the same time, prosecutors have revealed that the 30-year-old man intended to kill at least 40 people in the attack and also had plans to strike again had he not been nabbed after the first attack.

Just two days after Faisal Shahzad had attempted to bomb the busy Times Square of New York, he was taken into custody by the police authorities as he was trying to flee the country. The Pakistani-American suspect is reported to have been defiant in his court appearances defending his action as revenge for attacks in Pakistan by US drones.
