Molly Wei And Dharun Ravi Accused Of Violation Of Privacy

NEW BRUNSWICK (Gaea Times.com)- Tyler Clementi, an 18 year old committed suicide on 22 Sep when he discovered that his roommate Dharun Ravi and friend Molly Wei have violated his privacy by filming his gay relationship without his permission and showing it online. The belongings of Tyler Clementi were discovered on the Washington Bridge from where he is reported to have jumped from and committed suicide. He did not leave any suicide note behind him but reports say that his facebook page had one last comment that read “Jumping off the gw bridge, sorry”. The campus police is investigating the case and Molly Wei and Dharun Ravi have turned themselves in.

Molly Wei and Dharun Ravi are charged with illegally capturing the private moments of Tyler Clementi and distributing the content on web. The first time the incident took place on September 19 when Tyler Clementi asked to have the room for a few hours. Dharun Ravi reportedly saw him making out with another male student through a webcam, and wrote about it on his twitter page. The second incident after which Tyler Clementi committed suicide happened on 21 September when Dharun Ravi invited his friend son Twitter to “ichat” to witness the encounter. The College authorities said that such behavior in intolerable and that they are taking the incident very seriously.

Molly Wei along with Dharun Ravi appear to be in some serious trouble and could serve upto five years in prison if convicted of third degree offense of distributing the nude content of anyone with their permission. Meanwhile the family of Tyler Clementi are in a state of shock and depressed with the news but have promised to cooperate in the investigation.
