SANTA ANA (GaeaTimes.com)- Andrew Gallo was convicted on three counts of second degree murder yesterday by the California jury for killing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim player Nick Adenhart and his two other friends in April 9, 2009. The legal authorities said that he is also convicted on single counts of drunken driving, hit-and-run driving and driving under influence of alcohol and causing great body injury. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 10 and will face 50 years in prison after the sentence, the police reported.
The prosecutor Susan Price said that Andrew Gallo spent hours in drinking beers and taking shots with his step brother at three different bars. The prosecutor also said that this was Andrew Gallo’s second DUI case and he was warned by his family members many times before to not to drink and drive. The jury declared the verdict at the Santa Ana courthouse in the Orange County. The police said that Andrew Gallo’s blood level was three times higher than the legal limit at the time of the accident. The other friends, who were also killed with Nick Adenhart were Courtney Stewart and Henry Pearson. Andrew Gallo was accused of running a red light and slamming into the sports car where Nick Adenhart and his friends were riding.
Andrew Gallo’s lawyer Jacqueline Goodman seemed displeased at the verdict and he said that he would again appeal to the court. He said that it is a “tragic” outcome as he feels that the jury has made a wrong decision and it is a “miscarriage of justice”. However, the prosecutor Susan Price said that Andrew Gallo carries the entire burden of the crime in his arms.
