Former Polish PM denies existence of CIA prison
WARSAW, Poland — The man who was Poland’s prime minister when the CIA is alleged to have run a secret prison in the country says flatly that he knew of no such facility.
Leszek Miller’s comments come after The Associated Press reported last week that the USS Cole bombing plotter Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri was subjected to harsh treatment in a secret prison in Poland in late 2002 and early 2003.
Miller told Polish Radio 1 Tuesday there were “no secret CIA prisons in Poland.”
Polish officials have acknowledged the CIA used Poland as a base for flights after the Sept. 11 attacks. Prosecutors are now investigating the scope of Poland’s involvement in the U.S. prisoner rendition program.
Miller said he couldn’t give further details while the investigation was ongoing.
