LA gang member convicted in hate crime murder
LOS ANGELES — A Latino gang member has been convicted of first-degree murder in the racially motivated shooting death of a 14-year-old black girl and the stabbing death of a potential witness.
The jury returned its verdict Thursday against Jonathan Fajardo in the killing of Cheryl Green.
Jurors will now be asked to recommend whether Fajardo should be sentenced to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Co-defendant Daniel Aguilar also was convicted of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of 25-year-old Christopher Ash, a potential witness to Green’s shooting. He ciould face life in prison without parole.
