Burglars break into Russian investigators’ office

MOSCOW — Russia’s top crime investigation body says burglars broke into its Moscow offices, tied up a private security guard and opened 25 safes — but walked away with only a television and a surveillance camera.

The Investigative Committee of the Moscow region usually studies crimes such as homicide.

The offices and safes hit during Tuesday’s pre-dawn raid were mostly within the committee’s department for cases of high importance. But a committee statement says that no sensitive case files or evidence were touched.

The committee falls under the auspices of the Prosecutor General’s Office, but it operates independently.
