Inmates escapes from Colorado prison
STERLING, Colo. — Law officers in northeast Colorado are searching for a 48-year-old inmate convicted of attempted murder who escaped from a maximum security prison.
The Colorado Department of Corrections confirmed at 11:20 p.m. MDT Sunday that Douglas J. Alward escaped from the Sterling Correctional Facility, which is located about 100 miles northeast of Denver.
Alward is serving a 20- to- 40-year sentence for convictions of attempted murder, assault, burglary and kidnapping.
Department spokeswoman Katherine Sanguinetti says he was last seen shortly after 9 p.m. and didn’t appear for a routine roll-call an hour later.
She says he should be considered dangerous.
He is described as white with a shaved head, weighing 152 pounds, and 6-foot-1.
The Sterling Journal-Advocate reports that area residents were informed of the escape through an emergency notification system shortly before 1 a.m.
