Psychiatrist who saw Anna Nicole Smith to testify

LOS ANGELES — A hospital psychiatrist was due on the witness stand at a drug conspiracy trial in the Anna Nicole Smith to give an assessment of the model when she was hospitalized for drug withdrawal during her pregnancy.

Dr. Nathalie Maullin, who was on staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center when Smith was brought there, was expected to field such questions Friday as whether she considered Smith an addict. She was also likely to discuss her interactions with Smith’s lawyer-boyfriend, Howard K. Stern.

Prosecutors were moving on after a full day of testimony focused on Dr. Sandeep Kapoor whose private journals were shown to jurors to document his relationship with the celebrity model.

Kapoor, Stern and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich have pleaded not guilty to charges including prescribing drugs to an addict. They are not charged with causing her drug overdose death in 2007 which was ruled accidental.
