Alleged Israeli spy to appear in German court
BERLIN — A German prosecutor says an alleged Israeli spy is to be brought before a judge who will decide whether he has to remain in custody pending formal charges and a possible trial.
Rainer Wolf told The Associated Press on Friday that the closed-doors hearing would take place at an undisclosed location in Cologne at the request of defense lawyers.
Prosecutors accuse the suspect known as Uri Brodsky of illegally helping to procure a German passport used in connection with the Jan. 19 slaying of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai, allegedly by a Mossad hit squad.
Brodsky was arrested June 4 at Warsaw airport. He was extradited from Poland to Germany on Thursday.
