Memorial held for Conn. beer warehouse shooter

HARTFORD, Conn. — A memorial service has been held for a Connecticut man who fatally shot eight co-workers and himself at a beer distribution company.

Wilbert Holliday says the service was held for his nephew Omar Thornton at a funeral home in Hartford on Tuesday, a week after the shootings.

Police say Thornton went on the shooting rampage following a meeting in which he resigned after being shown video evidence of him stealing beer from a warehouse in Manchester.

The town scheduled a special church service for the Hartford Distributors Inc. workers for Tuesday evening.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters union has established a memorial fund to raise money for slain workers’ families.
