Former CFL QB Ledbetter jailed in Canada

DALLAS — Former CFL quarterback Cody Ledbetter has been jailed in Canada on domestic assault charges and faces extradition to Texas.

Ottawa Police Constable Kathy Larouche told The Associated Press that Ledbetter was scheduled to appear in a court Thursday on charges of assault, uttering threats and an immigration warrant.

The 37-year-old Ledbetter surrendered Wednesday in connection with a July 31 incident in which his girlfriend was hurt.

The ex-high school coach in Alvarado, 35 miles southwest of Dallas, pleaded guilty in 2005 to having sex with a 16-year-old girl. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram says Ledbetter fled the U.S. in 2009 when it appeared his probation would be revoked.

Lt. Tim Jones with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said says a warrant was issued earlier this year when Ledbetter stopped attending required meetings with his probation officer. He was serving 10 years of probation.
