NEW DELHI - The central government Thursday said that 235 arrests have been made in 491 cases registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the last six months.

“The CBI conducts searches and inquiries as part of its mandate to combat corruption in accordance with law, depending on the requirement of the cases,” Minister of State for Public Grievances Prithviraj Chavan said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

“Out of the cases registered during the last six months, the CBI has recommended prosecution or regular department action against 53 persons in cases where investigation is completed,” Chavan informed the house.

“No accused has been convicted or acquitted by the court of law in these cases,” he said.

The minister added that the data regarding the cases is not available centrally and the respective ministry and organizations were maintaining the record of the final outcome of the departmental proceedings.
