Families sue man convicted in Wis.-Mich. shootings

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. — Relatives of two of the teenagers slain in a 2008 shooting rampage on the Wisconsin-Michigan border say they are suing the convicted killer to make sure he doesn’t profit from the crimes.

Attorney Paul Poulson, who represents the families of 19-year-old Bryan Mort and 18-year-old Anthony Spigarelli, says they’re not looking to get any of Scott J. Johnson’s few assets.

The lawsuits, first reported by WLUK-TV this week, were filed back in May. They seek $5 million each.

Johnson, in a handwritten response to the judge, called the lawsuits “just as vile” as what he did in committing the slayings. One other teen was killed along with Mort and Spigarelli.

Johnson was sentenced to three consecutive life terms plus 295 years after pleading no contest last year to 10 felonies.
