No charges for now in alleged KU blackmail plot
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Prosecutors say they will not file criminal charges against a man University of Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins accused of trying to blackmail him.
The Douglas County prosecutors disclosed their decision Tuesday. Kansas associate athletic director Jim Marchiony also said Perkins does not plan to pursue the matter against William Dent, a former sports medicine director at Kansas.
On April 16, Perkins accused Dent of trying to blackmail him over exercise equipment the athletic director used at his home. Dent said a company gave Perkins the exercise equipment in exchange for prime men’s basketball tickets. The company’s owners and Perkins disputed Dent’s allegations.
The Kansas State Ethics Commission is investigating the loan of the equipment to Perkins.
