Terror list suggested for Pakistan-based Taliban
WASHINGTON — The new U.S. commander in Afghanistan and a leading senator are both urging the State Department to add to its list of terrorists the names of leaders of an insurgent network that launches attacks from Pakistan.
Commander of NATO forces Gen. David Petraeus wants some leaders of the Haqqani network added to the terror list, a senior U.S. Defense official in Washington said Wednesday. He spoke on condition of anonymity in order to describe internal administration discussions.
On Tuesday Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin urged the State Department to take the same action.
