Police shooting reported near Maine VA hospital
AUGUSTA, Maine — A witness says law enforcement officers in Maine shot an armed man within sight of the entrance of a VA hospital.
Police officers descended on the area Thursday morning in Togus, outside Augusta. Hospital spokesman James Doherty says hospital employees reported hearing gunshots in the woods.
Witness Paul Stevens tells The Associated Press that officers fired on a man carrying what looked like a rifle. He says eight to 10 shots were fired, and the man fell to the ground.
Police had no immediate comment.
