Man pleads not guilty to attack at Maine college

BANGOR, Maine — A man accused of attacking his estranged wife at a Maine university before being subdued by five female students has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges.

Forty-five-year-old Horst Wolk of Bangor remained in jail on $50,000 bail after Tuesday’s arraignment. A trial date has not been set.

The German national is accused of stabbing his wife in the neck and leg on May 5 at Husson University in Bangor.

Police credited five female students, including one who had recently completed a self-defense class, with coming to the woman’s aid and subduing Wolk.

The Bangor Daily News says the victim told police she had received a temporary protection from abuse order against Wolk about two weeks before the attack.
