More than 100 headstones toppled at Mass. church

LYNN, Mass. — Authorities say more than 100 headstones in a Catholic church cemetery in Massachusetts were knocked over during the weekend.

The Archdiocese of Boston said Tuesday that Lynn police received an anonymous tip Monday, alerting them to the damage.

Lynn police Lt. Peter Holey says the stones were all pushed or kicked down, likely on Sunday night. The tombstones were reset by Tuesday morning.

The Rev. Michael Ferrero of St. Mary’s Parish tells The Daily Item of Lynn that the vandalism is “sick” and he can’t comprehend the effort to cause that much destruction.

The archdiocese is working with local law enforcement officials to identify and locate the vandals.
