WASHINGTON (GaeaTimes.com)- The Internet had brought the word close to all but its usage can sometimes land people in trouble when they try to gain access to stuffs for free that are otherwise sold at a price. There are a number of people who do not want to shell out money for buying the DVD and Blu Ray discs of their favorite movies. They resort to the easier alternative. There exists a number of torrent sites that offer free download of the movies that are much sought after. There are a number of sites that also allow streaming of newly released and popular movies. With broadband internet connection penetrating every country watching high quality movies online has become a favorite pastime for many people. However, this is illegal according to the federal laws.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has taken steps to ensure that online movie piracy comes to an end. It wants to track down sites that stream movies for free which are otherwise copyright-protected. The movie studios and producing companies lose a lot of revenues owing to online movie piracy every year. It is rampant in the so called developing countries. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already banned 7 web sites that offer such free but illegal services.

The crackdown on the sites offering free movie streaming online comes after a White House announcement that said stricter rules would be implemented for theft of intellectual property. While this move will make the Hollywood movie studios smile those who were watching movies online for free would frown at the federal government.
