Police: Outlaws ‘polite,’ no trouble at ME funeral

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — The Maine police chief in the town where a private funeral service was held for an Outlaws motorcycle club member killed by federal agents says the group has kept its word and kept the peace.

Old Orchard Beach Police Chief Dana M. Kelley said he added five police officers for a total of 18 for Saturday’s funeral service for Thomas Mayne. He said some rival gang members were spotted but there were no disturbances.

Kelley said the Outlaws members “have all been polite” and apparently were not looking for trouble.

A memorial service earlier drew about 250 bikers to the group’s clubhouse in Dayton.

Mayne was killed June 15 in a shootout with agents, trying to arrest him at his home on a federal indictment.
