Detainee in Times Square probe transferred to NY

NEW YORK — One of three men rounded up in New England during the investigation of the failed Times Square bomb is now in custody in New York.

Aftab Khan was to appear Wednesday in Manhattan federal court.

Khan and two other New England men were detained last month on immigration charges as authorities followed the money trail in their inquiry about car bomb suspect Faisal Shahzad (FY’-sul shah-ZAHD’). None have been charged criminally.

Shahzad is accused of trying to set off a car bomb in Times Square on May 1. Investigators believe he relied on an underground money transfer system to fund his operation.

Khan and a cousin lived in Watertown, Mass., and were taken into custody last month. He has denied having any connection to Shahzad.

New York prosecutors declined to comment.
