6 inmates killed inside Mexican prison
MEXICO CITY — Authorities say six inmates had their throats cut and died in a prison in a Mexican state plagued by drug violence.
Sinaloa state Assistant Public Security Secretary Fortino Borquez says the inmates were attacked by other prisoners when guards were in another area of the prison in the city of Culiacan.
Borquez says the victims were in prison for homicide and illegal weapons possession. He says two of the attackers have been identified but a motive for Tuesday’s attack has not been determined.
A prison fight in another prison in the border city of Ciudad Juarez has left three inmates dead. Chihuahua state Public Security Secretary spokesman Samuel Delgado says a federal agent was also badly beaten during the fight Monday.
