Robber shot, arrested near SAfrican Parliament
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — South African police say they have arrested two suspected armed robbers who had fled through a part of Cape Town frequented by tourists.
Spokesman Captain Ezra October says officers tried to stop two men they thought were behaving suspiciously. The men fled, and one was quickly caught and found to be carrying a handgun.
The second man ran into a Parliament parking lot and pointed a gun at officers. Officers shot him when he refused to drop the gun, wounding him in the right leg.
October says police believe the two had robbed a nearby store earlier in the day.
With crime rates high, security has been tight in the lead-up to Africa’s first World Cup.
