Chief: Prosecuting Packers player a ‘problem’

MILWAUKEE — The police chief overseeing a sexual assault investigation involving a Green Bay Packers player says prosecutors might have a hard time pressing charges because of contradictory statements made by the player and his accusers.

Lake Delton, Wis., police Chief Tom Dorner said Monday that he expects to forward the investigation’s findings to the district attorney’s office by Tuesday. He says he won’t recommend whether to press charges, as police often do.

Investigators say two women reported early Saturday that they were sexually assaulted at a rented condo in town where seven players were staying. Police cleared six of the players but interviewed a seventh twice before releasing him.

Police have declined to identify that player. He has not been arrested.
