Gunman killed, 1 worker hurt in NY phone shop

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. — Authorities say a disgruntled customer who shot an employee in the abdomen at a central New York phone store has been shot dead by an off-duty police officer.

State police say 79-year-old Utica resident Abraham Dickan entered the AT&T store Thursday afternoon and shot employee Seth Turk. Rome police Officer Donald Moore was in the store and shot Dickan.

Police say Dickan was upset about prior incidents and had written a letter to AT&T listing the names of six employees he intended to kill.

AT&T spokeswoman Alexa Kaufman has issued a brief statement saying the company is cooperating with law enforcement.

The shooting occurred in New York Mills, 40 miles east of Syracuse. The wounded employee has been taken to a hospital for surgery.
