Gunman wounds 1 at NY phone store, is shot dead
NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. — Authorities say a gunman was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer after wounding a person at a central New York AT&T store.
Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara says the gunman entered the store Thursday afternoon and shot a person before an off-duty Rome police officer killed him.
McNamara wouldn’t say whether the wounded person was an employee or a customer. That victim was in surgery Thursday afternoon.
An employee told the Utica Observer-Dispatch that the gunman was a customer who had been banned from the store about a month ago for being disruptive.
Authorities had earlier said the gunman killed a customer and wounded an employee.
The shooting happened in New York Mills, about 40 miles east of Syracuse.
