Mass. Craigslist killing trial delayed until 2011

BOSTON — The trial of a former Boston University medical student accused of killing a masseuse he met through Craigslist will likely be postponed until at least January.

No firm date was selected during a hearing in Suffolk Superior Court Tuesday, but prosecutors and lawyers for Philip Markoff agreed that the case probably won’t go to trial until after New Year’s.

Markoff has pleaded not guilty in the April 2009 fatal shooting of Julissa Brisman, of New York City, and the armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman, both at Boston hotels.

The trial was originally slated for next month. A new date is expected to be set at a June 29 hearing.

Markoff’s lawyer also says he may seek to suppress a statement Markoff gave to police the day he was arrested.
