Obama to add homegrown terror to security strategy
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s top homeland security adviser says homegrown terrorism will be among the focuses of the administration’s new national security strategy.
Presidents use the national security strategy document to lay out the priorities needed to keep America safe. But for more than a decade, that document has focused almost exclusively on international threats.
Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, says the new revision will address homegrown extremists like the Pakistani-American charged in the failed Times Square bombing. It’s the first time homegrown threats have been a pillar of the key policy document.
The White House is expected to release the document this week.
