Guilty plea by trucker who viewed porn pre-crash
BATAVIA, N.Y. — An Ohio truck driver has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after his rig hit a disabled car on a New York highway while his laptop computer streamed pornography.
Authorities say Thomas Wallace of Brook Park, Ohio, had little sleep before the Dec. 12 crash on the New York State Thruway that killed Julie Stratton of Snyder, N.Y.
He pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree manslaughter.
Stratton hit a deer and her car was disabled in the passing lane shortly before Wallace’s tractor-trailer struck it from behind. The accident happened in Pembroke, about 20 miles east of Buffalo.
The 45-year-old trucker faces five to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced in September.
