SoCal parents sentenced for death of diabetic teen
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A Southern California couple convicted of murder after their teenage daughter slipped into a diabetic coma and died have been sentenced to prison.
Riverside County Judge Raymond Youngquist on Friday sentenced 63-year-old Gregory Latham to 17 years to life and his 53-year-old wife Yvonne to 15 years to life.
A jury on March 24 convicted the couple of second-degree murder and willful child endangerment.
Their 17-year-old daughter Nanette Latham was found unresponsive in the family’s squalid mobile home in Cabazon in 2006.
A prosecutor said the girl spent the last days of her life starving and wearing a wet diaper because her parents didn’t call paramedics. They finally called 911 after she stopped breathing.
Defense attorneys contend the couple thought she had the flu.
