Knicks G Chandler charged with drug possession
NEW YORK — Law enforcement officials say New York Knicks guard Wilson Chandler has been charged with minor drug offenses after police found marijuana in his car.
The Queens district attorney’s office says the 23-year-old player and a companion, Lamonte Yarbrough, were charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. They were issued desk appearance tickets and must appear in court July 1.
Police say they stopped Chandler on Tuesday night in Queens because he was driving a 2010 Mercedes Benz with the headlights off at around 11:15 p.m. Police smelled marijuana and recovered six small baggies of pot with a combined weight of under 2 ounces.
A call to a Knicks spokesman was not returned. The men are residents of Michigan and it wasn’t clear if they had attorneys.
