Jamaica police have warrant for accused kingpin
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican police have received a warrant for the arrest of an alleged drug kingpin wanted by the United States.
A statement from the Caribbean island’s government says the warrant was issued Tuesday for west Kingston strongman Christopher “Dudus” Coke.
The warrant leads the way for Coke’s extradition to the U.S.
Tensions have been rising since Prime Minister Bruce Golding announced on Monday that he would drop his opposition to the extradition of the politically connected businessman. Barricades have risen on roads leading into Coke’s Tivoli Gardens neighborhood and more police officers than usual are patrolling downtown Kingston.
