Newborn’s body found inside NJ sanitation truck

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. — The body of a newborn baby has been found inside a sanitation truck in central New Jersey.

A worker found the body around 8 a.m. Saturday while collecting trash on a residential street in Middletown. Police said it was not clear where the body came from, since it was found inside the truck.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis Valentin says the baby was born alive, though it was not clear if the child was full-term. He declined to provide further details, including the sex of the child.

Investigators with the prosecutor’s office and several area police officers remained at the scene for several hours, searching the truck and nearby areas for evidence.
