Suspect made flight reservation on way to JFK

WASHINGTON — U.S. government officials say the man accused of driving a bomb-laden SUV into Times Square made his flight reservation on the way to the airport and paid for his ticket in cash.

Officials, briefed on the investigation, spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing case. The Emirates flight, bound for Dubai, returned to the gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport, and law enforcement officials arrested the suspect, Faisal Shahzad.

Shahzad is suspected of trying to blow up his 1993 Nissan Pathfinder around 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Times Square.
