Police report details murder suspects 2008 arrest

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Reports say a University of Virginia men’s lacrosse player accused of killing a member of the women’s team was shocked with a stun gun by police after resisting arrest for public intoxication.

A statement released Tuesday by the Lexington Police Department says Charles Huguely had to be shocked before police could put handcuffs on him in November 2008. He pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and was sentenced to 60 days, which was suspended.

The arresting officer R.L. Moss says she felt it necessary to use the stun gun because Huguely became abusive and his size was no match for her.

Huguely is 6-2 and weighs about 205 pounds. Moss described herself as 5-3, 130 pounds.

Huguely was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of 22-year-old Yeardley Love.
