LA man charged with hammer killings
LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles man has been charged with using a hammer to beat to death his 87-year-old mother and a legless uncle.
Sixty-three-year-old Arthur Reyes Morales was charged Tuesday with two counts of murder with special circumstances of multiple murder. Los Angeles County prosecutors haven’t decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Morales is jailed on $2 million bail.
Prosecutors say he killed Rita Morales and 85-year-old Manuel Reyes, who was a double-amputee, on April 30.
Police say Morales lived with and was caring for both victims but the family had financial problems. Authorities say he called police and confessed to the killings.
