Passengers: Times Square suspect arrested quietly
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Travelers aboard the plane with the Times Square bomb suspect say the pilot announced that a passenger was being taken off the aircraft, but they only learned of the links to the failed attack after the arrest.
Suspect Faisal Shahzad was arrested Tuesday after the Emirates flight to Dubai was called back from the tarmac at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Passengers arriving in Dubai on Wednesday say the plane taxied for about five minutes before the announcement. They were asked to identify their carry-on luggage.
Colorado businessman Robert Woodward says there was no panic and the arrest was done quietly. He says an airport security guard later told him about ties to the Times Square case.
