LA woman convicted of killing pregnant woman
LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles woman has been convicted of running over and killing a pregnant woman and her fetus following a brawl outside a gas station.
A Superior Court jury found 23-year-old Unique Bishop guilty Thursday of two counts of second-degree murder. She was acquitted of three counts of attempted murder.
Prosecutors say Bishop drove her car into a crowd of more than two dozen women outside a South Los Angeles gas station in November 2007. Twenty-two-year-old Shontae Blanche was killed, along with her fetus, and three other women were injured.
Authorities say Bishop and a woman fighting over the same man met at the gas station to settle the dispute, and as many as 30 women were involved in the melee. They say Blanche and three others were walking away afterward when Bishop drove into them.
Bishop faces 30 years to life in prison.
