Man charged in 1 of 3 LA family member slayings
LOS ANGELES — A 73-year-old man was charged Thursday with the March murder of a Hollywood woman whose husband and youngest daughter were slain in 2008, authorities said.
Alberd Tersargyan of Los Angeles was arrested Wednesday evening at his Hollywood-area home and a weapon was found, Capt. Kevin McClure said.
Tersargyan faced arraignment Thursday afternoon on a charge of capital murder with the special circumstance of lying in wait, Deputy District Attorney Eric Harmon said in a statement.
Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty if Tersargyan is convicted, the district attorney’s office said.
McClure said police also were investigating whether Tersargyan is linked to the 2008 deaths. Police have said they were investigating whether a romantic triangle was the motive.
Karine Hakobyan, 38, was shot to death March 26 in a carport at her apartment complex. Prosecutors said she had just come home and parked about 8 p.m. when she was shot inside her car.
Her husband, Khachik Safaryan, 43, and their 9-year-old daughter Lucine were killed in the family home on Dec. 11, 2008.
All three deaths were discovered by another daughter, who was 13 when her father and sister were killed.
Hakobyan and Safaryan married in Armenia and moved from the capital city of Yerevan to the U.S. in 2003.
