Openings expected in Mass. school stabbing trial

WOBURN, Mass. — A jury is to hear opening statements in the trial of a Massachusetts teenager charged with fatally stabbing another student at a suburban Boston high school in 2007.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys are addressing jurors Monday in the murder trial of 19-year-old John Odgren.

Odgren was 16 when he allegedly stabbed 15-year-old James Alenson in a bathroom at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.

Prosecutors say Odgren had never met Alenson and picked him at random. They say Odgren had a history of threatening other students.

Defense attorneys say Odgren has Asperger’s syndrome and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and was legally insane at the time of the slaying.
