Canadian man arrested after ’sexting’ Calif. teen
GILROY, Calif. — Authorities say a Canadian military man drove 3,000 miles to have sex with a California teenager after the pair exchanged sexually graphic text messages and photos.
Michael DeBruyn was arrested Sunday at the 17-year-old girl’s home. He faces charges of suspicion of sending or possession of obscene matter depicting minors, contact of minor with intent to commit sexual offense and annoying and/or molesting a child under 18.
Gilroy police Sgt. Wes Stanford says the 24-year-old and the girl met four years ago through a social networking site when she was 13. They lost contact until two months ago.
Police say DeBruyn told the girl he was going to visit. She told her parents when he arrived.
DeBruyn lives in Wallaceburg, Ontario. He is currently on leave from the Canadian Armed Forces.
